May2015-Week3

So, I've missed a few posts since the last one, but things continued at the gym as per usual. Training continues: our athletes have kept improving, gotten PR's, challenged themselves, and continued to gain valuable experience at the gym. Here are some photos from the past couple of weeks.

April2015-Week4

The gym went through a wild week. The workouts included Turkish Get ups, Rope Climbs, Front Squats and a lot of push ups. Monday surprised everyone with a workout of 1,000 Double Unders. The Strength cycle had some heavy Clean and Jerks, Snatch Balance, and a Donut and Deadlift Friday.

Below, our coaches also working hard this week. Coach Diana and Coach Adriana blowing the boys out of the water with their sumo Deadlifts and Coach Erika hitting a PR at 140 Clean and Jerk.

Remembering The Lunge Special

So if you've been at Rush long enough you have experienced a Lunge Special. This year was the fourth annual. The workout is a great test of endurance, will, and sanity. A total of 800 meters of lunges, 400 of those meters with a weight overhead. Last year Coach Jorge decided it would be a good idea to include a buy in of 30 front lunges (65 lb/45 lb) before one sets out to these arduous 800 meters.  Passing drivers usually turn perplexed and bewildered at the scattered line of athletes wincing with pain as they lunge forth into the horizon, a weight trembling over their head.

The aftermath of this workout is, as one may imagine, catastrophic and comprises of most of the conversation for the next few days, including comical stories of people unable to climb stairs or normally engage in everyday activities like walking properly. Essentially, it is a classic! A bonding opportunity, fun memories, quality time with fellow beasts, and more importantly, always a challenge. Here are some photos of this years Lunge Special.

April 2015-Week1

This week there was a combination of strength and conditioning. A good emphasis on the shoulders and the core with a lot of toes to bar, chest to bar pull-ups, and OH Squats and Lunges. Shown below are Claudia concentrating on her OH Squat form, Coach Diana doing Muscle Up Therapy, our very own very tall Sammy doing kettle bell swings, and Val doing the Strength workout, working the cleans. And who can forget, Ms. Salena tackling the RX + option with her muscle ups.  Photos by Coach Jorge himself.
